Who are the players in the drive system/electric motor market?

If we think about the main sources for design, manufacture or supply of electric motors or drive systems, we can find a multitude of contenders in the market. However, for the purposes of this overview document, we have identified some of the major players and broken down the list into several sub-categories, consisting of producers of industrial and residential applications only. We have also intentionally excluded automotive, rail and aviation, and focused on applications ranging in size from 50W to 5kW.

Large players

Some of the large players in the electric motor market, such as many of those below, are large conglomerates or multi-faceted companies that produce a diverse range of products and solutions.

Regal Rexnord (formerly Regal Beloit Corporation)  
Headquartered in Beloit, Wisconsin, Regal Rexnord Corporation is a leading manufacturer of electric motors, electrical motion controls, power generation and mechanical power transmission products. Electric motor brands include Century, Fasco and many more.  

ABB Ltd
A global manufacturer of electric motors and generators to most large-scale industries and applications.

Nidec Corporation
A developer and manufacturer of an extensive range of motors, from small precision motors, through to medium-large sized induction and servo motors for commercial and industrial sectors.  

Siemens
Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Siemens is the largest industrial manufacturing company in Europe. A multinational conglomerate, Siemens includes a portfolio of motors, including Simotics electric motors for industry.

WEG
WEG is a global provider of industrial electrical technologies. WEG produces some 21 million units annually, making it one of the largest electric motor manufacturers in the world.

Wolong Electric Group
Wolong is one of the top three motor and drive manufacturers in the world. The company boasts a large family of brands, including GE Industrial Motors, Schorch, Brook Crompton and many more.  

Innovation players

Some of the players in the field of innovation may be smaller and younger, however they are revolutionizing the ways in which electric motors are designed, manufactured and used by multiple industries. Innovation is happening all the time and there is an endless list of opportunities in this sector.

EVR Motors
Israel-based manufacturer of electric motors, including a unique, patented trapezoidal stator radial flux motor (TSRF).  

Turntide Technologies
US-based producer of sustainable motor systems. Turntide’s Smart Motor System is based on switched reluctance technology and smart power electronics.

E-Circuit Motors, Inc. – PCB Stator Technology
American motor manufacturer ECM’s PrintStator (printed circuit stator) transforms application requirements into unique, optimised PCB stator designs.  

YASA
This Oxford, UK-based company champions an innovative approach to electric motor design with the production of their Yokeless and Segmented Axial Flux motors.

Magnax
Belgium-based Magnax’s base technology is in its Yokeless Axial Flux Motors.

Renesas is a Japanese semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Infineon Technologies
Founded in 1999, German technology company Infineon is one of the ten largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world.  

Texas Instruments, Inc.
American technology company Texas Instruments designs and manufactures semiconductors for markets including industrial and communications equipment, and personal electronics.  

NXP Semiconductors
Dutch semiconductor designer and manufacturer with locations in 30 countries.

Large US founded and based global manufacturing company with presence in 100 locations in 30 countries. Jabil manufactures motors for many large customers including those who supply some 300 of the biggest brands in the world.  

Foxconn
Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) is a Taiwanese multinational company and is the world’s largest electronics manufacturer. Based in Taipei, the company was founded in 1974.  

Flex Ltd
Flex is the third largest global electronics manufacturing company by revenue. Headquartered in Singapore, this American company has been in operation for over 50 years.  

Celestica
Originally established as a manufacturing unit inside IBM in 1994, this leading Canadian electronics manufacturing company serves diverse industries with end-to-end product lifecycle solutions.
